The January sales is a campaign period that lasts throughout January. It follows the Boxing Day sales as an extended sale with new offers and discounted products. You can often find better prices during the January sales compared to the Boxing Day sales.
We have checked the price history from 1 November 2017 to 31 January 2018 on the 30 categories that were the most popular here on PriceSpy during Black Friday. Statistics show that the average lowest price on 15 of the categories is lower in January than it is in November and December.
At the same time one of the categories, graphics cards, had an extreme average price increase, The average price in the graphics card category was almost 18% higher during the end of January 2018 compared to the beginning of November 2017.
Out of the 30 categories, 16 has at least one day inJanuary where the average price of the whole category was lower compared to on Black Friday. For example mobile phones, TVs, and tablets. However, the dates varied greatly so a specific day in the month can’t be advised. Also, the differences are relatively small with under 10% difference.
Popular gadgets cost less during the January sales
When looking at the price history of our 20 most popular products during Black Friday 2018, we see that as many as 14 products were cheaper during the January sales.
For instance, the Beats by Dr. Dre Solo3 Wireless headphones cost £ 149.99 during Black Friday and £ 105.96 during the January sales, a difference of XX pounds. Another example is the The North Face 1996 Retro Nuptse Jacket which was 51.95 pounds cheaper during the January sales compared to Black Friday.
The prices differ greatly from day to day during the January sales. Unlike Black Friday and Cyber Monday, it’s not possible to pinpoint an exact day when prices are at their lowest. There’s often a big price cut for one day only.
The best chance to land a good deal on individual products is still on Black Friday, and around 25-26 December the chances are also really good in many categories.
